If you go by the online rankings, the East Valley suburbs — Gilbert, Chandler, Queen Creek — top most "best places to live" lists in Arizona. If you go by what buyers choose after seeing homes in person, the answer depends on budget, commute, and what you want your street to feel like.
What the rankings measure
Gilbert and Chandler offer highly rated school districts and newer 4-bedroom homes for a fraction of what central neighborhoods cost. If a newer build in a master-planned community sounds like home, the East Valley is a good answer, and I'm happy to connect you with an agent who works it every day.
What the rankings can't measure
They can't tell you which neighborhoods empty out every summer, which ones are 40 minutes from the airport, or what a street feels like at 5pm. Those are the things that decide whether a move works.
Arcadia, for a different set of priorities
Arcadia sits in central Phoenix at the base of Camelback Mountain, against the Scottsdale border. It was citrus groves a few generations ago, and it still has flood-irrigated lots, real grass, and mature trees.
Location: about 15 minutes to Sky Harbor and downtown, 10 to Old Town Scottsdale.
Schools: much of Arcadia is served by Scottsdale Unified (Hopi, Ingleside, Arcadia High). Verify by address.
Lifestyle: the canal path, LGO on Saturday, Postino on Friday.
